After graduation, attended PJC(AA,'62) and U of FL on track/cross-country scholarship(BChE,'65). Worked from Apr 1965 to Mar 1967 as a Chemical Engineer for Allied Chemical Corp in Hopewell, VA, until I had to join the Air Force or be drafted. Married 1st wife, Becky, in 1966, divorced in 1968. After being Commissioned, my 1st AF assignment was at Eglin AFB as a Chemical Engineer. Married my present wife, Beth, in 1969. In 1971, the AF sent me to the U of AL to get an MBA. After graduation in 1973, my assignments were: Eglin again, Wright-Patterson AFB, OH,; South Korea(3 Times); Hawaii; and Maxwell-Gunter AFB, AL. I retired from the Air Force in June, 1988, and immediately started at Alabama State Univ to obtain a Masters Degree in Math Education(Dec '89) and be certified to teach math in AL. I began teaching at an essentially all black student high school(G.W. Carver) and retired from there in June 2003. From Aug 2003 to Feb 2009, I worked part-time as a Science Kit Specialist for the local Bd of Ed until I was laid off due to budget cuts. I am now working as a substitute teacher for two school systems: Montgomery and Elmore Counties. This is a wonderful web site that I keep coming back to over and over. My thanks to all(I know at least two: Joelle and Mary) who are responsible for establishing and maintaining it! It is hard to believe it's 2010 and very close to our 50th reunion! |

Following graduation I worked for Gulf Power. Married Fred King a PHS grad in 1962. Kim was born June 1965 and Fred (Ricky) in July 1966. This completed our family. We moved from Pensacola to New Orleans in 1967. This was followed by moves to Baton Rouge, Nashville, back to New Orleans and to Mobile in 1974. We were happy to be back close to Pensacola and parents. Wonderful years as the children grew. An active family, we enjoyed all water sports, fishing, riding dunes in our jeep, camping, board games and spent hours collecting and cataloging wreath pennies. Many hours devoted to ball park refreshment stands, scout leader and room mother at school. Always involved in church activities where ever we lived. As the children grew older I began a banking career with SouthTrust Bank. Graduated LSU Banking School. Served on committees with Mobile Area Chamber of Commerce, Business Women of Alabama, and President of Mobile Exchange Civic Club for two terms. Enjoyed helping with Relay for Life and Exchange Club's Family Center organized to teach parenting skills to high risk families. I retired early in 2001 to spend precious time with husband Fred who died in 2002 from cancer. Now I provide care for my 89 year old Mother suffering dementia. Joy comes to me each day in many ways. A loving family, grandchildren and one great granddaughter. She also lives with me so I read books, play "dress-up", host tea parties, and her magic wand can turn me into an animal in seconds. Her natural curiosity, imagination and "smarts" amaze me while giving me hope for her future. |

Comment: Fifty years - hard to believe! After leaving PHS, I went to Emory Univ., then grad school at the Univ.of Ky. and Univ. of Minn., Medical School at the Univ. of Miami and finally finished residencies in General and Cardiac Surgery at the Univ.of Minn. I stayed on the medical school faculty at Minnesota for a couple of years and then moved to Raleigh, where I have been in practice at a UNC affiliated hospital for the past thirty years. Along the way I married a pediatrician, had two children, was an Army surgeon (stayed in the reserves for 20 years), and have been involved with medical missions to third world countries for the last 17 years. Looking forward to renewing old friendships at the reunion. | |

Wow, you would not believe. Spent a year in college, went to Miami for a year before joining the Air Force. Assigned to a TAC Mobility Command as an aircraft mechanic and went all over the world including southeast Asia. Married my little Texas gal and went back to school. Raised 4 kids. Worked for Budweiser in Houston, as an Instrument Technician, Started my own Rubber Stamp Manufacturing Company and sold it after 8 years. Went back to school and became an I & E Designer, working for engineering companies in engineering and design groups designing Control Systems for Chemical plants, Pipelines and Refineries. Retired in 2003 and became an Insurance adjuster working Katrina in Mississippi and Wilma in Miami in 2005. Then I came out of retirement in 2006 when the Oil Industry came back alive. Going to retire again in April before the Reunion and my little darlin and I are going to travel the USA in our RV for a coupla years. Then we will probably go on a Mission for our Church. I came to Texas in the Air Force and met a little texas gal, married her and when I got out of the Air Force I couldn't get her or her horse out of Texas. So I stayed here. In fact this gal is so Texan that if I had taken her name when we got married I would be Jim Bowie (Buie). UPDATE: Today is June 11, 2022. I am celebrating my 80th birthday with my darling wife, 3 of our 4 wonderful kids (4th one in California), 4 grandchildren, my wife's sister and my best friend and his wife. This November my darling wife and I will celebrate our 57th year of a wonderful marriage. Like "Sachmo" says....It has been a wonderful life. And we owe it all to our Savior, Jesus Christ! Oh, did I mention that I have beat Cancer 4 times. After they tried to kill me with Chemo, I did a lot of research and self medicated. 4 CT scans over the past year they have found no cancer. But above all, I must give the credit for my cure to our Heavenly Father. Through prayer and Blessings from our Church Elders, HE led me to the cure. |
